ABOUT ME

There were two things that started my interest in creating special, one of a kind items. The first is my Abuela, (grandmother). She was a very creative woman. As a child I spent many years visiting my grandparents in Puerto Rico. They owned a ceramic studio where I tagged along plenty of classes they taught and soon started creating my own pieces. My most fond memory was the day my Abuela taught me how to crochet. I remember sitting on the porch of her apartment by the beach as she slowly instructed me. She also was a seasoned seamstress. She had an antique Singer sewing machine that popped out of its very own table like magic!
The second reason was the events following the birth of my third child. Victoria was born during the winter of 2003. At the time, we moved and were trying to cut costs. We ended up having only one car. I had to tote Victoria in a stroller while I walked my other two children to school. I would then walk to the grocery store and back, etc. I realized how difficult and bulky carrying a purse inside my diaper bag so I tried to design a small diaper bag that would Velcro itself to the stroller handles. I would have an empty basket to fill with groceries and not my personal belongings. After many prototypes, I finally created one I was proud of. Never thinking about its value I was just solving an immediate problem I had. Since then, I've been creating diaper bags, totes and other items.
My family was much involved with the creation process and gave plenty of praises and some "advise". My son would look at my items and say how "pretty" they looked and I probably could make "a million dollars selling them", (what and not two million?!)! My two daughters' Isabel (named after my Abuela) and Victoria wanted to have one of each. Isabel was especially interested in the production process leading to a "kid size" sewing machine on her Christmas list.
This site is dedicated to one woman who really inspired my creative soul; my Abuela, Isabel Ortiz. I love you and think of you every time I design and create my products.
